Why Navratri has a colour for each day
Navratri means nine nights, and each night honours a different form of Maa Durga, from Maa Shailputri on the first day to Maa Siddhidatri on the ninth. Wearing the colour of the day has become one of the festival's best loved traditions, especially in Gujarat and Maharashtra, where friends, offices and whole Garba groups plan their outfits around it.
The order is not the same every year. It moves with the weekday Navratri begins on, which is why 2026 opens with orange on a Sunday. Whether you follow it exactly or just add a dupatta in the right shade, it is an easy way to feel part of the circle.
